You don't need that much in degen skills, they only stack to 10 anyways, and you won't have the energy to use them all. Best degen build I've used is pure mesmer, illusion for migrain, conundrum, and conjure phantasm, and inspiration for leech signet and power drain. Ethereal burden is also nice to bring along, along with distortion for defense.

Isnt it only the 10 arrows u can SEE. I always thought it could go as high as u could stack them but its just that u can only see 10 arrows so when ur monk casts healing breeze lets say at 8 it negates life transfer or w/e degen by 8 arrow pips and u see the rest?

You're right.. and wrong. The max is 10.
If you have over 10 degen on them mathematically, it just means that it's like insured.

If their healer casts healing breeze for 7 arrows, then if you have 20 degen on them, you won't see a difference. You'll still have an extra 3 to spare.

The most you can get out of a degen build, however, is 20 dps. This is due to the fact that ANet capped it at 10.

20 dps is not something to get excited about in my opinion. Do something else.

20 dps on one enemy is crap...

20 dps on 8 enemies is 160 dps. That's something to be feared.

Yeah, a single-target DOT build is a waste of effort. Congratulations, you just spent your entire skill bar on something one Healing Breeze can counter. As Yukito said, DOTs are really only good if you spread em out among everyone on the other team and maintain them. Basically the point is to overwhelm the monks.

You might not have the feared 20 dps on 4 different targets, but you can use life siphon to effect in Random Arenas; a high level one with 4 degen put on 4 different targets gives you lots of extra regen. As for that DoT, you'll want to add some direct damage spells to boost your somewhat lacking power.

Suffering can, along with those blood magic drains that are pretty spammable.

If you really want mass degen, a ranger can get the most bang for his buck. Take both melandru's arrows and apply poison, and switch the preps back and forth. Even with a high expertise though, you won't have much energy left to do anything else, as you'll be activating your preparations far more than a normal ranger.

Not at all, as others said, degen is good if you put it on alot of people (good for rangers or necs), or if degen is simply part of shutdown, as with the slow cast/interrupt mesmer build.

Theres lots of effective DoT spells that nobody uses. Domination magic has chaos storm, water magic has maelstrom. Try using a E/N or a N/E. Both of their primaries will help you with the energy problem. Use curses (11), water magic (11), and the rest of the points into the primary. Water magic has some nice mob killing spells like ice spikes and ice burst which affect an area. Maelstrom does 22 dmg a second at 12 water magic and disrupts any spells that are cast within in it (very nice for PvE since casters dont move out of its range). Maelstrom also has a bigger range than people think . As said previously, suffering.

Here is a experimental build using the stuff i just said.

Shadow of fear
Suffering
Enfeebling blood
Deep freeze
Ice Spikes
Maelstrom
The last two skills you can pick. One can be an ele's energy storage skill if you ele primary or a glyph and the other can be an elite of your choice. Like I said, it's an experimental build. If you want hardcore damage instantly instead of DoT, try using earth magic with the earthquake aftershock combo.

You want DoT in a wide area?

Conjure Phantasm
Phantom Pain
Energy Tap
Ether Lord [why not add energy dot]
Virulence {E}
Suffering
Faintheartedness [works great on warriors in your face too]
Rend Enchantments [to counter any health over time setups]

9+2 Illusion
9+1 fast cast
7+1 inspiration
9 death magic
7 curses

Ether Lord is obviously best used when you have only 5 energy left and energy tap is recycling. Hex removal would eat this build alive, thankfully there is no massive Hex removal over an area outside of Nature's Renewal. Stats are spread out to a bare bone setup, but it rounds itself as well as it can.

Apply Poision
Melendrus arrows
troll ungent
suffering
enfeeble
faintheartedness
serpents quikness
lightning reflexes
(something like theses stats)
Wilderness survival 11+2=13
Curses 10+2=12
Experise 10+2=12

So the goal is to pile DoT on alot of people to keep the monk busy withe apply poision and melendrus arrow(morganas). Troll ungent for regen. Suffering to cause even more DoT to multiple targets. enfeeble and faintheartedness to shut down warriors. reflexs to keep the damage of while doing the preperations and serpents quikness for faster skill recharge. any suggestions would be great

Conjure Phant. is the best DOT spell; hands down.
Extremely fast recharge time and it's quite devistating.
